News:No Pedro

Pedro Martinez will not be back for the 2010 season according to the Associated Press. Well he is still a free-agent and the rumors keep on coming after taking alot of calls by teams but he didn't sign with any of them.

I don't know what to say.

News:Mets & Reyes

According to Andy Martino in the Daily News that the Mets are discussing with Jose Reyes this winter to extend his contract going to the 2011 season and a couple of more years to come.

Do you think the Mets will extend Jose's contract? Also do you think Reyes will retire after the 2010 season?

Post Game: Mets on Braves

The Mets lost to the Braves by the score of 8-3 tonight at Turner Field in Atlanta.
The Mets fell back to .500 on the season, and are 7 1/2 games behind the Braves for the lead in the National League East.
For a full recap and box score, check out SNY.tv here.
Mike Pelfrey was completely out of sync yet again tonight, and once again failed to complete five innings – his mechanics are inconsistent and all over the place, and he no longer appears to be getting that “down hill” action on any of his pitches, not to mention the fact he has absolutely no control of any of his pitches at this point.
He appears to have completely regressed to his 2009 form after such a brilliant start to his 2010 season, and if he doesn’t turn things around quickly, the odds the Mets can turn things around are long at best.
Jose Reyes was awful in the field tonight – he made two errors on two terrible throws and both led to runs for the Braves. Of course errors by Ike Davis and David Wright, on routine plays, didn’t help matters either.
Speaking of Wright, what is with these sidearm throws?
As I watched tonight’s game, I repeatedly questioned whether or not these Mets “want it” based on the apparent lackadaisical play over the course of the night. It’s just so hard to believe these Mets, 108 games into the regular season, with their season on the line against the division leader, that they could be so unprepared and apparently uninspired for this game, this series, and this moment.
Up Next:
The Mets are off tomorrow and open a three game weekend series with the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Friday night, with Jon Niese facing Joe Blanton. Game time is 7:35 pm.

Tonight's Game:Mets Vs. Braves

The Mets (54-53) will look for the series win tonight against the Braves (60-46) at Turner Field in Atlanta. Game time is 7:10 pm.
The lineup is as follows:
1. Jose Reyes SS
2. Angel Pagan LF
3. Carlos Beltran CF
4. David Wright 3B
5. Ike Davis 1B
6. Josh Thole C
7. Jeff Francoeur RF
8. Luis Castillo 2B
Mike Pelfrey (10-5, 4.10 ERA) will start for the Mets. Over his last nine starts, Pelfrey has gone just 2-4 with a 7.51 ERA, averaging just under five innings per start over that span, which dates back to June 13. Although he got roughed up in his last start against the Braves at Citi Field on July 10, overall he’s 2-1 with a 3.64 ERA against them in 2010.
Kris Medlen (6-2, 3.66 ERA) will start for the Braves. Medlen has worked both as a starter and a reliever for the Braves this season, as he’s making just his 14th start of the year tonight. In his only start against the Mets this season on May 18, Medlen allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings and took a no-decision.

According to the Daily NewsJason Bay told the team yesterday that he is ‘feeling a little better.’ Well Bay better hope he doesn't end up in the DL again this season and in his next four years as a Met.

I love the stomping high-five celebration from Francoeur as he marched in to and down the dugout steps.  Hilarious.

Post Game: Mets on Braves

The Mets (54–53) defeated the Braves (60–46), 3–2, in Atlanta tonight.
For a full recap and boxscore, go to SNY.TV.
I’m happy for Francoeur, who defied logic with the four-pitch walk, then later hit a HUGE home run.  Tonight had to be really special for him.  he not only helped his team win a VERY important game, but he did in front of his home-town, against the team who gave up on him, at a time when he’s fighting for his job… good for him.
This was an exciting, well-played game.  It was fun to watch.  The Mets were aggressive, and played very good on defense… including Luis Castillo, who made a slick stop in the hole to keep a runner from advancing from first to third.
Castillo talked to reporters before the game, and said he was very disappointed in himself with the way he has played since returning from the disabled list.  He took early BP today, worked in the field, and had a good game, getting two hits, including a double and a run scored.
Manny Acosta is rocking all three of his pitches quite well of late, and tonight looked fantastic, specifically his fastball, getting out of a jam in the seventh.
I like that RA Dickey stays in the dugout after he leaves the game.  I can’t believe he has a 2.36 ERA in 99 innings.  Incredible, man.
By the way, yes, I would still rather have signed Derek Lowe, instead of Oliver Perez.  How about you?
This was a much-needed win, if for no other reason then it keeps the team above .500.  I agree with Jerry Manuel, who keeps saying, the Mets just need to keep floating, getting by, playing well enough, so when they catch a hot streak they can make up ground… the clock is ticking, though.  Eventually, too much floating will run out of time.  In other words, tomorrow night is as good as any night to keep a winning streak alive… Let’s Go METS!
The Mets conclude their three-game series with the Braves in Atlanta at 7:10 pm, withMike Pelfrey (10-5, 4.10 ERA) taking on Kris Medlen (6-2, 3.66 ERA).

Tonight's Game:Mets Vs. Braves

The Mets (53-53) will look to even their series with the Braves (60-45) tonight at Turner Field in Atlanta. Game time is 7:10 pm.
The lineup is as follows:
1. Jose Reyes SS
2. Angel Pagan LF
3. Carlos Beltran CF
4 .David Wright 3B
5. Ike Davis 1B
6. Josh Thole C
7. Jeff Francoeur RF
8. Luis Castillo 2B
R.A. Dickey (7-4, 2.32 ERA) will start for the Mets. Dickey is coming off a win after pitching into the ninth inning against the Cardinals last week when he allowed just four hits. Dickey lost his only start against the Braves this year when he allowed three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings on July 9.
Derek Lowe (10-9, 4.58 ERA) will start for the Braves. Lowe has struggled as of late, as he’s been unable to pitch at least six innings since July 5 against the Phillies. He’s lost twice in two starts to the Mets this season with a 3.65 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.

News:Mejia Update

The Mets have activated Jenrry Mejia from the disabled list and assigned him to Single-A St. Lucie.
Mejia went on the disabled list with a rotator cuff strain after being demoted from the Mets in late June.

Post Game: Mets on Braves

The Braves defeated the Mets by the score of 4-1 tonight at Turner Field in Atlanta.
With the loss, the Mets have fallen to .500 on the year, and are now 1/2 game behind the Marlins, in fourth place in the National League East.
For a full recap and box score, check out SNY.tv here.
The Least You Should Know:
  • Johan Santana allowed four runs in seven innings, three of which came in the first inning, and struck out 11 batters on the night.
  • With two on and two out with the Mets down by three in the eighth, Josh Thole, rather than Mike Hessman, grounded out to end the inning, leaving the Mets 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position on the evening.
  • Jeff Francoeur broke an 0 for 20 slide with a single in the eighth inning.
  • The Mets have lost 23 of their last 35 games, and are now 37-74 at Turner Field since it opened in 1996.
…the Mets showed no fight whatsoever tonight, in perhaps the most important series of the season…there just didn’t seem to be that sense of urgency to come out, play well, and at least play well enough to win…the Mets played poorly in the field and were flat at the plate yet again, as they couldn’t take advantage of a shaky Tim Hudson…it’s just very sad to see at this point…

The Mets will look to even their series against the Braves tomorrow night at Turner Field in Atlanta, with R.A. Dickey facing Derek Lowe. Game time is at 7:10 pm.
